Visit Windsurf (now Devin Desktop)Re-tested July 2026 — updated for a rename. First, the thing most comparisons haven't caught up with: Windsurf is now Devin Desktop, under Cognition. Its own site says so directly ("Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf"), windsurf.com redirects to devin.ai/desktop, and the change ships as an over-the-air update with plans and extensions carried over. The editor is the same one people know for its Cascade agent — the badge on it changed. With that settled: Cursor and Devin Desktop remain the closest matchup in the category, both AI-native VS Code-style editors with codebase awareness and cross-file agents. Feature lists converge every few months, so the honest deciding factor is which agent flow suits how you work.

The bottom line
These two are close enough that you should trial both free tiers on your own repository for a day. Cursor is our pick on momentum and completion quality, but a developer who prefers Windsurf isn't wrong.
